The Eagle Monument
The 30-foot Eagle Monument at Florence Veterans Park was unveiled at a veterans’ memorial service on November 11th, 2008. Three towering granite monoliths are topped by a life-size bronze bald eagle, captured at the moment of landing. The placement of the monoliths creates a central meditation chamber where visitors stand inside the monument and watch the eagle descend toward them; each face of the granite carries a bronze medallion representing a branch of the armed services.
The memorial was recognized as the national award winner in the Public Memorial and Features Design category by the American Institute of Commemorative Art, whose membership comprises fifty leading designers and builders of memorials across the United States and Canada.
